When two rivers meet…

My name is Kinnon Haufe, and from the moment I first took the court as a 12-year-old in junior high, I’ve loved Volleyball. On June 8th, 2021, I met the love of my life at a Blanco in Kensington. She was perfect, except for one small problem: she’d never played Volleyball before. Also, I was going back to school in Victoria, B.C., that September.

Somehow, three months of dating convinced her that I was worth doing eight months of long-distance for. The second she could, she moved out to Victoria with me, and we lived happily ever after… when I wasn’t out playing Volleyball, of course. But Alison realized that we could spend more time together if she started playing Volleyball, and the rest is history. She started out on teams where the “setter” is the person in the front-middle and the rallies feel a lot like ping-pong. She studied dozens of Youtube videos, answered every Facebook post looking for subs, and invested in essential accessories like arm sleeves. Three years and four times through Haikyuu later, Alison is probably more obsessed with this sport than I am, which is really saying something!

We played Volleyball together year-round, but hated being inside on those beautiful, hot summer days. We gave beach Volleyball a try, but didn’t appreciate what the sand did to our already-unremarkable verticals. Then, a friend introduced us to grass Volleyball, and while we were skeptical at first, we quickly learned to love the feel of cool grass underfoot (or under a diving body), as well as the sun and the breeze. We played 2’s and 4’s together, getting more touches and learning to play together in a completely new way. And when we finally moved back to Calgary, we knew we had to bring that part of our life back with us.

So here we are! We’re incredibly excited to bring a new kind of Volleyball to Calgary, and we’re 100% confident that we can create a playing experience that’s fun, rewarding, challenging, and totally unique. We hope you’ll give it a shot, and promise you won’t be disappointed.
